German Handball Players Association protects per-diems of Nationaletam players

The German handball players union GOAL recently enforced the continuing payments of per-diems to the national team players by the federation DHB.

After the payments stopped in October 2011 without informing the players the union was asked to take action by its members and succesfully pursuid the players interest during the dispute. The federation had argued, that a recently established compensation to the employers, for sending the players to the national team, would replace the usual payment to the athletes. Interestingly enough the federation had also planned to pay compensations to their voluntary board members, which made up about the same amount, usualy paid to the players.
